The Italian region of Umbria is known as country's green heart. It is situated in the centre of Italy and bordering with Tuscany, Lazio and Le Marche. This beautiuful region is a place you should definitely visit while in Italy.

It's capital city is Perugia. Assisi is situated on the slopes of the Monte Subasio is one of the most interesting places to visit. You should definitely visit Basilica of St. Francis, Basicilia of St. Claire and the Church of St. Peter. Near Assisi you will find Spello which is rich in history, monuments and works of art.

You will be spoilt for choice when it comes to activities in Umbria. From exploring museums and castles in the cities, horse back riding and biking along the scenic routes, rafting on Corno river, taking part in olive harvest and olive oil tastings, visiting local wineries and wine tasting, learning how to cook like an Italian while taking part in cooking classes and much more. While in Umbria you should choose to stay at one of many rural villas in the area.

Festa della LavandaFesta della Lavanda

Each year at the end of June and beginning of July, Festa della Lavanda (Festival of lavender) takes place in Assisi (Castelnuovo - 9 km from Assisi). During these three weeks you can enjoy amazing fields of lavender bloom, take amazing photos of different colours of lavender - purple, white, blue, lilac, pink.

You can participate in photo contest where they choose the best photos of lavender. You can also watch the distillation of lavender and discover how essential oil is made. There are some workshops where you learn how to create ointments, tea preparation or cultivation of roses. Don't miss the small market of lavender products. Some farmhouses organise dinner themed around lavanda so you can enjoy dishes such as four cheese gnocchi with lavanda, crispy port with lavanda or lavanda panna cotta. This event is a special occassion for enjoying countryside life of Umbria.

Eurochocolate si a festival which take places each October in Perugia. The best Italian and international chocolate producers comes here to present their chocolate products. During nine days of the festival the streets of Perugia are filled with stands offering all kind of chocolates. You can participate in themed events, chocolate tasting tours, shows and cultural events. 

Farmhouse holiday & Cooking classes in Umbria

If you wish to experience true Italian way of life you should stay at Il Fontanaro Farmhouse. This estate owned by Lucia and Alina, mother and daughter team, is a great place for spending relaxed time in a beautiful natural surrounding.

They offer accommodation at several holiday villas which gives all comfort needed for you holiday. At this estate they grow their own organic vegetables and fruits and have around 3000 olive trees from which they produce superb extra virgin olive oil. They also make their own wine and honey.

You will have great time here while learning how to prepare real Italian pasta and other dishes at cooking classes run by the owners. Or you can just relax by the pool and enjoy stunning Umbrian scenery.
