A Story of Italian Limoncello

Limoncello is a classic Italian lemon liqueur mainly produced in southern Italy, especially in the region around the Gulf of Naples, the Sorrentine Peninsula and the coast of Amalfi. It is also produced in other regions of Italy such as Abruzzo, Basilicata, Apulia, Sicily, Sardinia and others.

Limoncello is made from the zest of Sfusato lemons. Lemon zest is steeped in spirit until the oil is released. The liquid is then mixed with simple syrup. Limoncello is served chilled as an after-dinner "digestivo". Along the Amalfi Coast, it is usually served in small ceramic glasses that are also chilled. 

If you come to Amalfi coast you will notice many lemon trees around. Don't forget to buy some limoncello to take home when you will be there. Limoncello is a refreshing liqueur that you should definitely try. 

Limoncello liqueur is used also in many desserts where there is a need for lemon flavour. Therefore, we can flavoured cheese cake filling with limoncello.
