Classic Pizza Sauce

Our super-easy classic pizza sauce created the perfect complement for layering up your pizza toppings of choice. Juicy and sweet tomatoes with a hint of garlic, salt and basil make this ideal pizza sauce for enchancing the flavour of your classic pizza dough base.

Choosing good quality tomatoes will make a difference to the flavour of your sauce. We love canned San Marzano tomatoes, which are the traditional choice for Neapolitan pizzas.

Classic Pizza Sauce


  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 800 g canned whole plum tomatoes (like San Marzano)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Handful of basil leaves
  • Freshly ground black pepper


  1. Place the oil in a pan over a medium heat. When warm, add finely chopped garlic and fry until softened but not brown.

  2. Add finely chopped tomatoes, salt, roughly chooped basil and freshly ground black pepper. Simmer on a low heat for 20 minutes or until the sauce has thickened slightly.

  3. This sauce can be used straight away or placed in an airtight container and stored in fridge for up to a week.
